Privacy notice

When you apply. The application form asks for your name, your email and a few words about your riding or what you have in mind, which we need to reply, and — only if you choose to give them — your phone or WhatsApp number, where you are based, your preferred dates and how flexible they are, the size of your party and how you heard about us. You decide how much of the optional detail to share.

Nothing else is gathered quietly. We do not run advertising trackers, we do not buy data about you from anyone, and we do not ask you to create an account. The only personal information we hold about you is what you type into the application form, or send us by email or WhatsApp.

Technical data. Like any website, ours is delivered over the internet, so the network that serves it necessarily sees basic connection information such as your device's IP address. We use this only to deliver the pages to you and to keep the site secure — not to build a profile of you.

We use your application for one purpose: to read it, reply personally, and — if you travel with us — to plan and run your trip. A guide reads every application; it is not fed into an automated scoring system or a marketing list. We will not email you about anything other than your enquiry unless you ask us to.

Where the law of your country gives you data-protection rights (for example the UK GDPR or the EU GDPR), we rely on two grounds: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in responding to genuine enquiries about our expeditions. We do not use your application for marketing, and we never sell it.

We want to know which pages people find useful, so we use privacy-conscious analytics services (Plausible and, where enabled, Google Analytics with IP anonymisation and advertising features turned off) to measure visits in aggregate. Plausible sets no cookies; Google Analytics uses first-party cookies solely to measure aggregate traffic without identifying you across websites. There is no advertising network on this site.

We set no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies of any kind. Small functional storage in your own browser may remember a preference — for example, that you have turned the site's motion off — and that information stays on your device.

Some pages in the gallery carry short films that are published on our YouTube channel. Until you press play, nothing on the page is loaded from YouTube: the still you see is hosted here, on this site, and no request, script or cookie reaches Google. Pressing play loads the player from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced address, and from that moment YouTube can see that you are watching and applies its own privacy policy. If you would rather it never did, do not press play — every page reads completely without it.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. Your application is read by the guides and the Nepal-based operations team who would ride or travel with you — no wider than that.

A small number of service providers help us run the site and receive your application, and they process your data only on our behalf: our web host, which serves the pages (and so handles technical connection data such as your IP address) and keeps a copy of each application on our server; Cloudflare, if it is delivering and protecting the pages in front of that host; our own mail server, which sends the notification and your acknowledgement; and Google, because one of the inboxes an application reaches is a Gmail account. Your application is read and acted on in Nepal, so by applying you understand your details are handled by our team there.

We keep your application for as long as we are in conversation with you, and — if you travel with us — for the period our operational and legal obligations require afterwards. If you would like us to delete your details sooner, ask us, and we will unless we are required to keep a record.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to object to or restrict how we use it, or to receive it in a portable form. You can also withdraw any consent you have given. To exercise any of these, email us using the address below and we will respond as promptly as we can.

If you are in the UK or the EU and are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority — in the UK, that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Our expeditions and programmes are for adults, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

If our practices change, we will update this notice and revise the effective date at the top. Any material change will be reflected here before it takes effect.
